How much does a custom website cost?
The price of a website is not a single number. Let’s go through what makes it up, the indicative ranges and why the cheapest quote often ends up the most expensive.
There is no single answer to “how much does a website cost”, just as there is no single price for a car. The price is made up of the scope and what the website needs to do. Let’s go through what goes into it, so you know what you are paying for and why quotes differ so much.
What drives the price most
- Scope: the number of pages and templates. A simple presentation is a different thing from a large website with dozens of pages.
- Features: forms, bookings, payments, e-shop, integrations with other systems. Every extra feature means extra work. Where a standard website is not enough, it becomes a custom system.
- Design: a website designed for your brand costs more than an unmodified template, but it does not look like a thousand others. The middle way, a quality template extended with custom code, is often a sensible balance of price and uniqueness.
- Content: who provides the copy and photos. Copywriting and content preparation are separate work.
- SEO and speed: whether the website should be built for search and fast loading from the start.
- Operations: domain, hosting, maintenance and support after launch.
Indicative ranges
You will find specific figures for each type of website on the pricing page. Take them as a guide: only a specific brief gives an exact price, because two “company websites” can mean completely different amounts of work.
Why the cheapest quote often ends up the most expensive
A low price usually hides in one of these places: an unmodified template that both visitors and Google recognise; no SEO and slow loading; copy you have to write and polish yourself; or missing support, so the first change after launch becomes a problem. A cheap website that brings no customers is not a saving, it is money down the drain.
How I approach pricing
I tell you the price up front and tie it to what the website should achieve. I am not interested in handing over a website and sending an invoice, but in the result: a website that lifts your brand and brings in customers. Write me a few lines about what you need and I will come back with a proposed solution and an indicative price, no obligation.
